A Show-Stopping Bath Offers Sanctuary in a Designated Heritage Home
Sometimes you just need to get away from it all. And sometimes you need to do that without leaving home.
This radiant master bath suite is a spa-like sanctuary where the client can escape and unwind. The project blends modern and traditional fixtures to seamlessly integrate with the inherent character of a designated heritage home. The space connects to a dressing room, which we scaled back slightly, moving a wall to allow the bathroom a larger footprint. Any of the home’s original details that were disturbed in the reconfiguration, such as the moulding, were restored or replicated. The room is entered through an original door that boasts its original hardware and is surrounded with restored moulding.
At the left is a classic pedestal sink with a decidedly traditional faucet. Moving further into the room, the vocabulary shifts and the features gradually become more contemporary. The tub’s freestanding filler is a sleeker take on the gooseneck form of the sink’s faucet. The curvaceous soaker tub is positioned parallel to the window, where the natural light can best be enjoyed. With the sun filtering in, the room is positively luminous, thanks to its show-stopping tiles; snowy white Thassos marble mosaics cover two walls and the floor, while the remaining walls are a burst of glossy blue. These handmade glass tiles each have subtle variations in colour, which adds a sense of movement to the surface. The effect evokes the energizing calm of the ocean, and a slow tide rolling in to wash your cares away.
